A Picture Frame Where the Shadow It Casts Becomes a Beautiful Decoration

Every picture frame, to some extent, casts shadows. These shadows can sometimes obscure the artwork or draw attention to the frame itself rather than the art, creating a negative effect depending on the lighting.

We aimed to minimize these negative elements while using the shadows to enhance and decorate the frame itself.

As the name suggests, RIM is a simple picture frame with a rim around its edges. The rim, measuring 1mm in thickness and 5mm in height, surrounds the frame and creates a small depth. This depth, combined with the rim, brings out a subtle glow and a three-dimensional feel that gently emphasizes the artwork.

The part that holds the artwork is also one of the thinnest among the ALUMIUM frames. This makes the frame feel as if it’s made from a single thin sheet of aluminum. Despite its slim structure, the surrounding rim ensures that the frame maintains its strength.

Additionally, the rim allows for the possibility of displaying the artwork in a flat position with an acrylic box, adding further versatility.

Designed by a graphic designer with an architectural background, the frame features a design that complements and blends into the surrounding space while enhancing the artwork.

Since its release as a premium aluminum picture frame, "RIM" has been highly praised by designers, photographers, and contemporary artists. It was awarded the 2021 GOOD DESIGN Award.

Suggestions for Use

  • In addition to being wall-mounted, the frame can also be used in a flat position. By covering the inside of the rim with acrylic, you can create a three-dimensional display with an acrylic box.
  • It can be used for a variety of artworks, including photographs, posters, and contemporary art.
  • The surface features a shot-blasted matte coating, giving the aluminum frame both a high-end feel and a rich texture.

For sizes with a short side of 202mm or less and a long side of 1031mm or more, the frame uses washer screws.
